About our scout troop
Coulter Scout Troop meets from 7 pm to 9 pm on Tuesday nights in Macquarie, ACT. We also do a lot of activities on the weekends. Usually around 20 scouts come to most activities.
Sometimes we're in and outside the hall, and sometimes we're out at a park, having a barbeque and playing games, hiking up local hills, or at a restaurant or Zone 3. At weekends we camp, hike, rockclimb, abseil, and lots of other things. The Troop Council, which is run by scouts, plans our activities.
Why?
Why would you want to be a scout? Here are some good reasons!
What we do
Some of the activities we do are:
Learning basic skills such as emergencies, campcraft, citizenship and construction:
- Outdoor activities
- Emergencies
- Citizenship and community service
- Games - wide games, indoor and outdoor games
Earning badges - learning modelling, bushcraft, astronomy and music, and many other skills
Meetings
At meetings we have parade and then we have games, guest speakers, or do
work for badges (eg first aid, knots, cooking, making fires, construction).
Visitors
We have visitors come and talk to us from the community and from other local and overseas scout groups.
Patrol activities
A Patrol Activity is where get together with our patrol, outside the normal meeting times. We choose the activities ourselves. Some of the things we've done are: visit the War Memorial; make pizza; cook over a fire; watch DVDs; go to the pool; go on a hike.
